Not just an urchin... A LATE URCHIN.
Dickon Pope, the wiliest, purplest 8 year old wino in London, turns up his suspiciously flushed nose at this blog's suggestion of deadlines or sobriety until 5 o clock. Of course he and his tiny golden labradoodle Wobbles are too busy perilously picking pockets to pay any attention one way or the other.
Dickon was left as a newborn in a paper sack on the doorstep of the local pub, and was adopted by the establishment's well intentioned but notoriously pickled owner much the same way a store might adopt a cat. He enjoys shouting, foolery, dry sherry, wet sherry and passing out in a particularly cozy gutter at night. Wobbles is from a long line of Royal Scottish Labradoodles and can trace his lineage back to Abraham's labradoodle, Mr. Tinkles. He was on the fast track to kennel club stardom when a tragically misplaced pot of tea overturned on his tender young back and left a bald spot so damning that he was forced to the streets. He now aides Dickon in his antics in exchange for a warm box to snuggle in every night. He enjoys long walks on the shoreline, belly rubs and 18th century French literature and makes a mean welsh rarebit when given the opportunity.

The regrettable crown of gluttony
This may be the sickest thing I have ever painted.
He was once a powerful king, but was corrupted by gluttony. He ate everything that he could, including his servants, his family, and his own legs. Now he waits alone for bats and spiders to get too close to him so he can eat them too.
Nate
PS. Sorry I posted it kinda late hehe

Fisher King.
(i would finish it but i havent been able to get the proper tools yet)
The Fisher King, or the Wounded King, figures in Arthurian legend as the latest in a line charged with keeping the Holy Grail. Versions of his story vary widely, but he is always wounded in the legs or groin, and incapable of moving on his own. When he is injured, his kingdom suffers as he does, his impotence affecting the fertility of the land and reducing it to a barren Wasteland. Little is left for him to do but fish in the river near his castle Corbenic. Knights travel from many lands to heal the Fisher King, but only the chosen can accomplish the feat. This is Percival in the earlier stories; in the later versions, he is joined by Galahad and Bors.

We Got to Keep the Sketch Frolic Going, Son!
Come on, guys! What can the next topic be? Festive wombats? Accidents waiting to happen? Freeze frames of awkward phonemes? Mutiny? Popular cartoon characters as they would appear in 1950s sitcoms? Dickensian street urchins forging meaningful but tenuous friendships with tiny golden labradoodles? What?

New Topic: Propaganda Art
I hope everyone's finals are going well! Hang in there, it's almost over.
We had some great entries for this last topic, but it was clearly less popular than the first one. From the people I (and the other admins) have talked to, it seems that most people where just not all that into drawing Foreigners as Fruit. The same sentiment seems to be reflected in regards to the most recent poll winner "balloons in strange places." So, we have decided to do away with the poll since it seems to somehow promote topics that no one wants to draw. Instead, the admins will talk to each other and the participating artists to decide the new topics.
So, the new topic that significantly more people seem excited about is: Propaganda art!
Go ahead, promote yourself as a scary dictator, make me want cupcakes, or show support for the teddy bear uprising. Whatever you want.
Obviously we don't expect anyone to submit anything this week, so this one has an extended deadline. You have until June 14th to complete your propaganda art. That's 2 weeks after the end of the quarter. That should give everyone time to get home and settle in.
I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with for this one! Good luck!

May 3rd: Foreigners as Fruit
Great job and great turn out on the sea monsters everyone. Fantastic work!
The poll results are in, and the new challenge for the next two weeks is "Foreigners as Fruit." Interpret that as you see fit. Submissions are due May 17th.
In addition to this challenge we are going to host a second challenge: design the sketch frolic blog banner. Everyone has FIVE weeks to complete this challenge to give you guys plenty of time to come up with some fun ideas. I know that runs right into finals so you'll have the first week of june to get your submission in after finals (and graduation) are over.
Dimensions for the banner are: Width = 740 pixels, Height = under 200 pixels. 72 dpi
Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with :D
-Matt
ADDITONAL NOTE
The "Contributing Artists" list has been edited to only include those artists who have actually contributed. This should save space and avoid listing people who may join but never contribute. As more people contribute, they will be added to the list. If you are contributing for the first time, please allow a couple days for your name to be added. If we haven't added it within a week or so, please contact one of the admins. (Matt, Sean, Tom, or Lyle) Thank you.

Siren
so my friend Ashley asked me to do a drawing/painting for a class she is in and she wanted me to draw a siren,..one of the things she was hoping to included was a mermaid flare so with that said I was able to kill two birds with one stone. My only story for her is that she is from Eternia which is where He-man lives....hell yes!!!

Time Extension
I was talking with Matt and Nate today, and we decided it might be a good idea to extend these topics to 2 weeks. I know we are all pretty busy, and one week seems to go by really quickly. Plus I know a lot of us could end up skipping a topic because we didn't have time one week. By making it two weeks, I believe we can allow more people to get in submissions without feeling like they've fallen behind.
Thanks to everyone who already submitted an entry. Those of you who haven't yet now have some extra time, so let's see some more sea monsters!
Sea monsters are now due May 2nd.

Quick Update
Hey everyone, the submissions so far are fantastic! Keep 'em coming!
I just have a couple updates to let you all know about:
First, when you update with a new post, please put the name of the prompt you are submitting for in the labels box on the edit post page. I went ahead and added 'sea monster' to all of the ones up so far, so don't worry about those. Also, after the prompt has been posted, you should be able to click "show all" next to the labels box and select the current topic from there. So don't even have to type anything extra! Super easy.
This is all so we can use the "Past topics" list on the side of this page to organize the submissions by prompt.
Second, I updated the "Contributing Artists" list on the right of the page to include everyone. Everyone with a website (that I could find) has it linked there. Those of you I could find o website for have your names link right back to the Sketch Frolic home page. If you have a site I didn't link to, or I linked to your site incorrectly, please let me know.
That's it! I'm loving this blog already, and look forward to more awesome posts from all of you awesome people.

We're bringing sexy blog!
Here Everyone!
Here we go! We're about to graduate, and we of course are concerned with keeping in touch, and staying involved in each otheres lives. So here's a way to do so. This blog is dedicated to keeping ourselves creatively active as we venture into character design, visual development, and other animation related topics to keep our creative juices flowing. So let's get started with the first week of posts.
Here's how the blog works:
1. Every Monday there will be a new challenge.
2. You will have until the following Sunday to submit your artwork before we start the new challenge.
3. Post as many drawings, sketches, or submissions related to the project as you like.
4. Feel free to post current personal work for critique and feedback.
5. Tell us about your life! Keep us updated on all the cool stuff you've been up to.
6. Have fun! Use this blog as your weekly creative outlet.
That's about it! We'll go ahead and set up the first topic. Let's dive in head first, and then you can expect a new topic, prompt, challenge...whatever...every Monday.
